For too Long Our Elected Officials have Enriched Themselves at the Expense of the Citizenry! Now is the Time to Reign in Congressional Powers by Calling for a "Constitutional Convention"
We the people of these Fifty (50) States and US Territories of the United States of America are demanding a Constitutional Convention to take place within these states and territories to address the concerns of our elected leaders and their failures to properly represent the citizens of these United States and US Territories guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America.
The Citizens of these United States need to limit the powers and activities of our elected leaders, who think it is in the best interest of our country to limit our freedoms. These elected Members of Congress are paid by taxpayer dollars and their job is to work for and represent the United States Citizenry.
We, the US Citizenry need to take our actions one step further, by recalling any elected Senator or House Representative that fails to properly represent their constituents, respective states or the nation as a whole.
The time is now to prevent Members of Congress from enriching themselves, by writing into law, their own pay increases and retirement packages. We, the people feel Members of Congress are writing laws that sell the US Citizenry out to major corporations and big business.
1. No Tenure / No Pension – Members of Congress shall earn a salary while only in office and receive no pay when they are out of office.
2. Members of Congress (all past, present & future) are to participate in the Social Security Retirement Fund. All funds in the Congressional Retirement Fund are to move to the Social Security system immediately. All future retirement funds are to flow into the Social Security system, and Members of Congress are to participate along with the American people. The Social Security Retirement Fund is to remain solvent and these funds may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Members of Congress shall purchase their own retirement plan, just as “some” Americans do.
4. Congress shall no longer vote themselves pay raises or raises for the next incoming Members of Congress. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of Consumer Price Index or 3%.
5. All Members of Congress shall lose their current health care system and are to participate in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Members of Congress shall equally abide by all written laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Members of Congress are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Members of Congress.
All candidates in “local” elections shall serve no more than two (2) terms in an elected office.
All candidates in “state” elections shall serve no more than two (2) terms in an elected office.
All candidates in “congressional” elections shall serve no more than two (2) terms in an elected office.
After an elected official serves the people in any elected capacity of 20 or more years of service, he/she shall receive a full pension for services rendered to the US Citizenry.
Any elected official, who serves less than the required 20 years of service to the people, he/she services shall be part of their Social Security Retirement Package.
Any elected official, who defrauds the people in any capacity will be prosecuted the full extent of the law.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If the President can serve a term limit, all other elected officials shall do the same!
Problem:
When an Appropriations Bill is written, it has attachments, addendums, amendments, add-ons and ride-ons that have nothing to do with the original appropriations bill. These are the “wedge issues” that Members of Congress sneak into a Bill and make them law. An appropriations bill is just that: A bill that provides funding for a particular program, not a particular law!
Solution:
Congress shall only write attachments, addendums, amendments, add-ons and ride-ons to an appropriation bill for its intended consequences only. Congress shall only write appropriation bills for their intended departments only
Problem:
Former Presidents have mismanaged this country’s fiscal responsibilities by financing wars, providing tax cuts for the wealthy and financing huge military expenditures.
Solution:
Repealing the tax cuts are needed to balance the budget and to create a surplus. Any surplus will go towards paying down the private debt as well as the public debt. Once the debt is eliminated, we can go forward and provide tax cuts for everyone.
Solution:
With a balanced budget, in the event the need arises for the nation to spend, a temporary modest tax increase will go into effect to offset the cost of doing business for that fiscal year only.
Problem:
The recent Supreme Court decision allowing corporations the right to pour unregulated amounts of funding into political campaigns is based on the ruling it limits corporate freedom of speech.
Problem:
Campaigns are being financed by corporations that are able to influence the votes of Members of Congress.
Solution:
The Labor Party recognizes the US citizenry holds the rights to vote, as the US Constitution guarantees, one-person, one-vote!
Solution:
The Labor Party will work to elect Members of Congress that will rewrite campaign finance laws to reflect the one-person, one vote rule and to remove corporate influence from Members of Congress.
Solution:
The Labor Party will work with Members of Congress to provide equal funding for each party candidate during the general elections.
Problem:
Congress has written laws that have affected the United States Citizenry to the point of limited freedoms. These limited freedoms are being written in as attachments, addendums, amendments, add-ons and ride-ons to appropriation bills.
Solution:
Any time a laws are written that affects the freedoms of the US Citizenry these laws will be part of a Constitutional Amendment. In adding an amendment to the United States Constitution, it will need to be passed by a two-thirds majority of the citizenry.
Problem:
Corporate greed, the loss of jobs to overseas nations, illegal immigrants and the decreasing pay scale has had a devastating effect on the economic security of the United Sates. Along with the lack of Members of Congress to serve and protect the citizens of the United States, the stability of the nation as a whole is in jeopardy!
Solution:
It will be the duty of Members of Congress to put the interest of the people first and if needed to form a partnership with business to provide the necessary funding for new businesses to keep America strong and keep Americans working.
Solution:
The infrastructure of the United States is crumbling. It will be the duty of the Members of Congress to provide the necessary funding to upgrade and maintain the sustainability within the United States. Let us make America beautiful again!
Problem:
Due to election cycles, most of the US citizenry do not exercise their right to vote. As a result of low voter turnout, the people of the United States are not properly represented by the elected Members of Congress, their state legislatures or their local governments.
Solution:
The Labor Party will elect Members of Congress, who will rewrite the electoral process for all US elected officials to rotate on a two, four and six year cycle. Election Cycles that are conducted outside of this process do not adequately represent the will of the people. Low voter turnout is not good for the US citizenry and the nation as a whole.
Solution:
Two year cycles: As all US House of Representatives are elected every two years, this cycle shall never change. State and local governments that have elected officials serving in two-year cycles shall align their elections to coincide in the same election cycle to maximize voter participation.
Solution:
Four year cycles: The President of the United States is elected every four years, this cycle shall never change. State and local governments that have elected officials serving in four-year cycles shall align their elections to coincide in the same election cycle to maximize voter participation. The Labor Party feels that the states should stagger the election of Governors, so as no more than 25 Governors are elected in a two year cycle.
Solution:
Six year cycles: As all US Senators are elected every six years, this cycle shall never change. As only one-third of the US Senators are elected in two-year cycles, the Labor Party believes this staggered election cycle ensures the continuity of government.
Problem:
If you are in this country illegally, you have already broken the law. There are too many illegal immigrants inside the United States, who are threatening the stability of law-abiding US citizens. Corporations and companies are hiring illegal immigrants to lower the wage earnings of legal US citizens and to maximize their own profits. These actions are a threat and detrimental to the economic security of the United States.
Solution:
The Labor Party believes that illegal immigrants, who cross the border illegally, do so to seek a better life for themselves and their families here and back in their native countries. However, the best solution to securing the US borders is to have all the illegal immigrants come forward to provide the necessary information as to why they belong and have a right to be here. There is no easy solution to this problem, but it has to start here!
Problem:
De-regulation is bad for the people and the nation as a whole. Regulation laws that are dismantled do not adequately protect the citizenry.
Solution:
The Labor Party will elect Members of Congress that will regulate everything to protect the citizens of the United States! As the Founding Fathers wrote the US Constitution for the people by the people, it is necessary for the federal government to monitor and regulate all products developed for the US consumer market. It is the role of the federal government to protect and serve the citizens of the United States.
Problem:
Congress has squandered and mismanaged the “Power of the Purse” at the discretion of Presidents and not following the “Will of the People” for which is the basis of the Founding Fathers’ principals.
Solution:
Members of Congress will adhere to the will of the people and provide a 60 day window of debate with the President to provide the nation with a balanced budget and measures to reduce the nation’s outstanding debt.
Solution:
The budget will be debated and not negotiated. It is the House of Representatives that has the “Power of the Purse” and will use this power, not to bargain for a particular party, but to make sure it does what is good for the nation as a whole and not a particular group! The Senate will debate with the House to make sure all budgets adhere to the intentions of the US Constitution.
Solution:
Annual budgets will be written with the purpose of keeping the nation secure and competitive with the world.
Problem:
Members of Congress are not fully aware of the laws they are writing, due to their own lack of knowledge of the laws written and their failure to properly understand the law.
Problem:
Members of Congress are passing laws with an overwhelming amount of technical wording that prevents the complete reading of the law and the end result having a negative effect on the US Citizenry.
Solution:
Members of Congress are required to ensure the laws that are written, that they need to understand these laws and prevent a negative impact of these laws on the US Citizenry.
Solution:
Members of Congress will limit the wording in these laws to ensure the law covers the true intentions of the law only. The complete reading and understanding of the law will ensure a positive effect on the US Citizenry.
