Security
Military Rights:
Problem:
A nation is gauged by how it treats its veterans. The US has used the military far too long to serve a particular agenda. Veterans have become pawns in the drive to cut military spending. Veteran benefits, pensions, health and welfare are being decreased, denied and cut entirely.
Solution:
All US troops, who are committed to protect, serve and uphold the US Constitution are vital to maintain the freedoms and security all US citizens enjoy! The Labor Party recognizes the role of the US troops and will work to maintain their level of pay, veteran benefits, pensions and health care.
National Security:
Problem:
In the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, we as US citizens lost civil liberties and freedoms, as a result of the USA Patriot Act. Ben Franklin stated: “A nation that sacrifices its freedoms for security, deserves neither freedom nor security.”
Solution:
is the duty of these United States and its citizenry to secure our nation’s borders to prevent another attack. However, we in the Labor Party will not sacrifice the freedoms of the citizenry for security. The Labor Party will strengthen and protect the privacy of every US citizen, by either re-writing the USA Patriot Act or removing provisions that allow the federal government to spy on its citizenry.
Penal System:
Problem:
The incarceration rate reflects negatively on our society. The incarceration rate does not reflect proportionately to the racial makeup of the nation. The incarceration rate in the US is skewered, biased and discriminatory. Condemning a person to the penal system reflects negatively on our society, as we have no proper forms of rehabilitating those, who properly serve their time of incarceration.
Problem:
The penal system has become a revolving door, whereas a high percentage of the individuals, once released are right back in the penal system within a year. The penal system has become a profitable business for corporations in the United States. As corporations use the penal system to make a profit, laws have been written to keep individuals incarcerated for longer periods of time.
Problem:
It is understandable that some individuals, who are incarcerated, need to stay within the penal system, indefinitely! Racial prejudice has kept a disproportionate number of Asians, African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans incarcerated for longer periods of time than their European American counterparts.
Solution:
As we are a nation of laws written for the people by the people, we are the only ones, who can and will remove the rights of individuals within our society. Our judicial system needs better regulations to ensure due process is executed fairly, impartial and within the laws for which this nation is governed!
Solution:
All federal prisons, state prisons and local jails will remain under the control of the federal government, state governments and localities to ensure the ones incarcerated are still protected under the due process of the law.
Solution:
We, as a nation can no longer afford to keep a high percentage of the population incarcerated, on parole or on probation. We must help all individuals with a hand up to ensure we are all productive citizens within our society. All individuals, who served their sentences and are released from the penal system, will have their rights restored, as they are once again members of society. We are a nation that will always have something that needs to be repaired, restored or rebuilt. We can use these individuals to make restitution or a contribution back into our society.
War and War Funding:
Problem:
Wars have been used to further a particular group’s agenda. War funding has been used to rob the nation’s treasury.
Solution:
As war is sometimes a necessary evil, the United States will maintain and keep its military-readiness at a moment’s notice. However, we in the Labor Party do not believe it is the job of the United States to police the world.
Solution:
To protect our strategic interests, the US will seek alternative avenues and means to avoid war. As Ronald Reagan said, “we can achieve peace through strength.” We will exhaust all means short of war to avoid bloodshed. We will not put US troops in harms-way to satisfy a particular agenda or ideology.
Solution:
If it is in the world’s interest to seize and control a strategic interest to prevent the world from being blackmailed or held hostage, it will be the United States with its allies and approval from the United Nations to warrant further actions to protect that strategic interest.
Alternative Energies:
Problem:
Corporate greed is forcing the United States to go to war to secure and retain strategic economic interests of the nation’s natural resources.
Solution:
The federal government will work to develop alternative energy technology, such as solar, water and wind power to make the United States become more energy independent.
Alternative Food Technologies:
Problem:
The United States is exporting too much of its own food supplies for the sake of multi-national corporations to make a profit.
Problem:
The United States is importing too much of its own food supplies for the sake of multi-national corporations to make a profit, using exploited and/or cheaper labors.
Solution:
The United States has the typography to grow and produce most of the world’s food crops, plants and animals to ensure the United States maintains an adequate food supply for its population and the capacity to store excess food supplies in the even t of a natural disaster.
Medical Research:
Problem:
Medical technologies and break-through medical research are not properly being used to benefit the population. The new technologies and break-through research are profit driven components for the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Solution:
Any and all new medical technologies will need to provide adequate care to those, who cannot afford the care and reduce the cost for those, who can afford the care. Medical research is here to benefit the human race not to make a profit from it!
Stem Cell Research:
Problem:
The Labor Party believes the testing of products on humans, animals or plants have no place in a civilized Society. The testing of products has proven to be a burden on society, especially on particular groups, to discover cures to diseases, testing has become a necessary evil.
Solution:
To serve the betterment of society, testing needs to be done to cure the ills of our society. With proper safeguards and regulations, society will discover and eradicate the diseases that plague our society.
Technology
Problem:
For the sake of making a profit, US corporations have shifted high-skilled jobs overseas, leaving the United States with a low-wage earning, unskilled labor workforce. The technology gap has widened, as these jobs go overseas.
Problem:
The Labor Party believes military technology is a necessary evil, but profiting from war or the destruction of a society, should not be the primary goal of the United States. Most break-through technologies coming out of the United States have mainly come from the military sector of our society. Weapons of mass destruction should not be the primary principles of keeping the United States competitive around the world.
Solution:
All new technologies created within the United States need to have a civilian benefit first and foremost. If a new technology is found to have a military application, it is the duty of the United States to keep the nation’s military readiness first and foremost. As a Democracy, the United States will promote peace and prosperity around the world. Profiting from war is not a necessary evil, but evil in its purest form!
Free World Trade:
Problem:
Once a Free Trade Bill is negotiated between the United States and other nations, US corporations shift jobs overseas to these other nations, at the expense of US citizens.
Solution:
Before any Free Trade Bill is passed by Congress, Members of Congress will investigate to ensure US jobs are not loss. If US jobs are to be lost, all corporations moving overseas will pay a tariff and importation tax of all products sold in the United Sates. The tariff and importation tax dollars will provide job training to US citizens, affected by the new trade bill.
The United Nations:
Problem:
The five (5) Permanent Members of the United Nations: China, England, France, Russia and the United States no longer represent the world. They have used their veto power in the United Nations to protect friends and to pursue enemies with reckless disregard on how the other member states vote on the issues.
Solution:
One solution is to strip the five permanent members of their veto power and have the general assembly vote on matters of world security. A two-thirds majority vote in the general assembly will be required for any nation(s) to take action against another nation(s).
Solution:
Add another 10 members with veto powers that will balance regional influences around the world to prevent any one nation from having influence over another nation. There will need to be approval of 10 of the 15 veto member nations to warrant further military actions on another nation.
Solution:
The new veto members will represent the continents. The following 10 members will be added with veto powers. They are as follows: Brazil, Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria and South Africa. The new veto members have economic stability and regional influence within their perspective regions in the world.
